Whalesafari Andenes (Hvalsafari AS) is the first, largest and most experienced provider of whale watching in Norway. The company was established over 30 years ago and our long experience enables our crew to know exactly where to look for whales. We can therefore offer 100% whale guarantee!

Whale guarantee means that we give you another free trip on the first available boat if we do not find cetaceans (whales or dolphins) on the first trip. You must come to the reception and book this trip if you want to use this option. If you do not have the opportunity to take another trip, we will pay you the money back – the whole ticket price.

DEVIATIONS FROM NORMAL

The trip from Andenes to the whale-area takes about one hour with M/S ‘’Reine’’. The entire tour with photography and whale watching experiences lasts approximately 2-4,5 hours, depending on when we find whales. With the other boat M/S “Maan Dolphin”, the journey out to sea takes about 40 minutes and a normal tour lasts between 2-4 hours. It is worth noting that deviations from the norm can occur with the result that trips can be shorter or longer. This is because we are dealing with wild animals that can move over large distances in a short time as well as many other factors that can affect the whales’ behavior. What you can be sure of, is that we will do whatever we can to make your trip a success.

DEPENDENT ON THE WEATHER

Forecasts and weather conditions are checked continuously. When strong winds or fog are present or forecast, it might happen that trips must be changed or cancelled at short notice. But even here there are exceptions and nothing is certain until the captain has made his assessment based on his experience and local knowledge of sea currents and the prevailing weather conditions. Weather conditions observed on land are not always representative of the conditions at sea. What might seem as bad weather on shore might actually be good weather for whale safari. The opposite can also be true. If weather conditions on land gives you doubt whether there will be a trip or not, contact us and we will give you the answer.

Moving the trip forward in time

A trip that is moved forward in time due to weather conditions means that the boat will depart one hour earlier than initially planned. This is done by taking the museum guided tour after the whale safari instead of before which is the normal procedure. It is therefore important to show up for the museum guided tour 1 hour and 45 minutes before the boat departure time.

Postponing a trip

In cases where a trip has to be postponed, the departure will be delayed a given number of hours before a new evaluation of the weather conditions are made. Such delays can be irritating, especially if a trip is postponed several times. This can happen in cases where it is reported change in the weather conditions but where the change is absent or come later than expected.

Cancelling a trip

Cancellation of a trip is the last solution and takes place in cases where the weather is too bad and there is no hope of rapid improvement. Cancellations may also occur due to unforeseen circumstances such as technical faults.

Changes of trips is unfortunately something that can occur at times. Passenger safety and comfort must come first and we therefore ask for your understanding of any changes we must make.

IMPORTANT:

Trips can be changed or cancelled at short notice due to bad weather or low demand. Our recommendation is therefore to set aside several days to spend if possible.
